 History
Brownstown Stud Farm is the oldest continuous Thoroughbred Stud Farm in the world. It has produced numerous Champions and influential Broodmares and Stallions during its long history. From this base the Management of Irish Equine will plot your course to success.
Brownstown Stud Farm is based in the heart of Kildare in Southern Ireland. It is situated approx. 45 minutes from Dublin Airport. Kildare is one of the premier locations in the World for racing and breeding. It contains some of the best private Stud Farms. Consequently successful patrons base their breeding operations in Kildare, for example the Aga Khan (Shesoon and Giltown Studs), The Al Maktoum Family (Kildangan, Derrinstown , Old Connell, Blackhall, Ragusa, Ballygoran and Woodpark) Walter Hefner (Moyglare Stud), Tony OReilly (Castlemartin Stud Farm), Michael Smurfit (Forenaughts), Prince Kalid Ab Dulla (New Abbey and Ferrans). It is understandable that the Irish National Stud is based 3 miles from Brownstown.
Brownstown House Stables has been the home to Neil & Virgina McGrath for the last decade. There have been numerous racehorses trained to win from its stables and has some of the finest facilities available within its gates (42 stables, Indoor Lunging Ring, Horse Walker, Out door Sand Arena, All-weather Gallop, and numerous small turnout paddocks.)
Situated on the edge of the Curragh of Kildare, 5 minutes from the M50, Irelands major southern route, Brownstown has all the facilities of a world class training centre within easy access (Curragh Racecourse & Training facilities) (7 All-weather Gallops totalling 71/2 miles /11.8klmeters. There is approx. 19 miles of grass gallops varying from the natural turf to tan gallops all with different gradients and draining.). The stables are situated 20 minutes riding from the schooling ground where young horses are taught to jump.
